Privacy policy

Effective date: 10 July 2026 Version 4 · history

hoomi is built to protect your privacy. There is no account and no sign-up, and hoomi does not collect any of your personal information. What you do in the app, your activity and your settings, stays on your device. When parts of the app connect to the internet, they never send personal data about you. This policy explains all of it plainly.

Who this policy is for

This policy covers the hoomi mobile app and our website at hoomi.dev, including the optional suggestion form ("hoomi", "the app", "we", "us"). It explains how we handle information. It is written to be plain and honest, because hoomi is built around collecting as little as possible.

What we collect

Nothing. hoomi does not collect any personal data. Specifically:

  • There are no user accounts and no sign-up or login.
  • We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or any other identifying information.
  • We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
  • We do not send any information about you or your activity to us or to any third party.
  • We do not build a profile of you, and we never send personal data about you to hoomi or to anyone else.

The one exception is if you choose to send us a suggestion through the form on our website. That is the only place where you actively send something to us, and it is explained in "If you send us a suggestion" below.

When hoomi connects to the internet

hoomi works without an account and never sends your personal data anywhere. Some parts of the app can, when you choose, connect to the internet, and we want to be clear about when:

  • Opening a resource link. When you tap a link to an outside resource, your device opens that website. From that point you are on a third party's site, and their privacy practices apply, not ours.
  • Reaching a helpline. When you choose to call or text a helpline, your phone's own apps and network handle it, as described in the next section.
  • Checking for updated support information. A future version of hoomi will let you download an updated list of support contacts and resources, so they can be kept current. This will be something you choose to do, it will carry no personal information about you, and we will update this policy when it arrives.

None of these send personal data about you to hoomi. As with any internet connection, the servers involved can briefly see your device's network (IP) address. hoomi does not log it or use it to identify you.

Information the app stores on your device

To make the app useful, hoomi saves what you create and choose locally on your phone. That can include your progress (such as exercises or sessions completed), your settings (such as theme or accessibility choices), your diary entries, and your comfort kit, which may hold notes to yourself, contacts you add, voice recordings you make, and photos you choose. All of it stays on your device, is not transmitted to us or anyone else, and is under your control. Deleting the app removes it. Because this information never leaves your phone, we cannot access it, and it is not part of any database we hold.

Backups and moving your data

hoomi lets you make your own backup of what is on your device, so you can keep a copy or move to a new phone. A backup is created only when you ask for it, and the resulting file goes only where you choose to send or save it. hoomi never receives your backup, and we hold no copy of it on any server.

  • You can protect a backup with a password. When you do, the file is encrypted using standard AES-256 encryption, so only someone with the password can open it. There is no way for us, or anyone without the password, to read it.
  • Without a password, a backup is not encrypted, and the app tells you so clearly before you create one. A separate, plainly readable copy of your data is also available for your own inspection; like an unprotected backup, it is not encrypted, and the app makes that clear.
  • Importing a backup restores it onto your device. It replaces what is there, and it happens only when you choose it.

Permissions the app may ask for

To let you add things to your comfort kit, hoomi may ask to use your microphone (to record short voice snippets) and to add photos from your library. These are used only to create content that you save on your device. The recordings and photos stay on your phone, are never sent to us, and leave your device only if you choose to include them in a backup you make. If you would rather not grant a permission, the rest of the app works without it.

If something goes wrong (diagnostics)

If the app hits an unexpected problem, hoomi keeps a short technical error log on your device to help with troubleshooting. It never leaves your phone unless you choose to share it from Settings, and it contains no diary entries, comfort-kit content, or other personal information, only technical details about the error.

If you send us a suggestion

hoomi has an optional suggestion form on our website, at suggestions.hoomi.dev. It is the one place where you can actively send something to us, and using it is entirely your choice. We have kept it as private as we can:

  • It is anonymous. We do not ask for your name, email, or any contact details. We cannot reply to you, and we cannot tell who sent a suggestion.
  • We ask you not to include personal details in your message, and there is no need to.
  • It is processed for us by Netlify, who host the form and pass your message to us by email. Netlify also runs automated spam filtering (provided by Akismet, a service from Automattic) on submissions. These providers act only on our instructions, as our processors.
  • To deliver your message, the providers involved briefly see your device's network (IP) address. We do not use it to identify you, and we do not add it to any profile.
  • We keep suggestions only as long as we need them to consider your idea, and for no longer than six months, after which they are deleted from our inbox and from the form's dashboard.

This form is a feature of our website and is separate from the app. The app itself still collects nothing.

When you contact a helpline

hoomi can help you reach support services, for example by starting a phone call or a text message to a crisis helpline. When you choose to do this, the call or message is handled by your phone's own phone and messaging apps and your mobile network or the relevant service, not by hoomi. We do not place the call, see its contents, or keep a record of it. Any information you share during that call or message is handled by that service under its own terms and privacy practices, not ours.

Children

hoomi is intended as a general wellbeing tool and is not directed at children. Because we collect no data, we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have rights over your personal data. Because hoomi does not collect or hold any of your personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on our side. All information the app stores stays on your device and is removed if you delete the app.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles information or how it connects to the internet, we will update this policy and change the effective date above. If a future version of the app ever introduces any collection of your personal data, we will update this policy first and make the change clear to you.

Version 3 effective 15 June 2026, superseded 10 July 2026

Why it changed

This version reflects new on-device features. hoomi added a private diary and expanded the comfort kit to hold voice recordings and photos you choose, so we listed those among the things the app stores on your device. It also added the ability to make your own backup of your data, which you can protect with a password that encrypts the file using standard AES-256 encryption, and to import a backup when moving to a new phone; a backup is created only when you ask and goes only where you send it. Because these features can use your microphone and photos, we described those permissions, and we noted the short on-device error log you can choose to share for troubleshooting. hoomi still collects nothing, and none of this content leaves your device unless you choose to back it up.

Version 2 effective 11 June 2026, superseded 15 June 2026

Why it changed

We added an optional, anonymous suggestion form to our website so people can share ideas for hoomi. It is the first time hoomi receives something you send, so we updated the policy to describe it honestly: it asks for no name or email, it is processed for us by Netlify (and an automated spam filter, Akismet) and emailed to us, and we keep suggestions for no longer than six months. The app itself is unchanged and still collects nothing. We also broadened the policy to cover the website as well as the app.

Version 1 effective 10 June 2026, superseded 11 June 2026

Why it changed

The first version said that nothing ever leaves your device. hoomi still collects no personal data, but that wording was not quite accurate and we did not want anyone to sign up on a promise we already knew we would adjust. The app can open links to outside resources, which takes you to other websites, and a future version will let you choose to download an updated list of support contacts and resources. We rewrote the policy to describe this honestly and up front, added a section explaining exactly when the app connects to the internet, and made clear that none of these connections send personal data about you.
